Rajasthan Political Crisis LIVE Updates: Rajasthan Assembly Congress chief whip Mahesh Joshi has approached the Supreme Court against the July 24 order of Rajasthan High Court to defer disqualification proceedings against former deputy chief minister Sachin Pilot and 18 other MLAs. Meanwhile, over 50 Congress MLAs of the Ashok Gehlot camp were shifted from Jaipur to Suryagarh in Jaisalmer in order to prevent attempts at poaching.

Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat took a dig at Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot after the Congress MLAs began their journey to reach Jaisalmer, leaving Fairmont Hotel in Jaipur, ahead of the assembly session to take place in August 14. Congress had previously alleged that Shekhawat was involved in the horse trading of MLAs in Rajasthan, leading to the current political crisis. A purported audio tape with the Union Minister’s voice was also released by the party, while Shekhawat denied any involvement in the matter.

“The Rajasthan government in its own state is wandering at an unsafe rate! This is Gehlot Ji’s clear message to the people of the state – protect yourself !!”, he said.

Congress MLAs in support of Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot have left Fairmont Hotel in buses to reach the airport. They will be moved to Jaisalmer, ahead of the Assembly Session which is to take place on August 14. All MLAs have been asked to prepare their identification cards in advance, and they may be shifted to either Marriott Hotel or Suryagarh Resort, sources said. Ministers are expected to stay back and take over work. Two charter planes trips will transport all MLAs to Jaisalmer. Jaisalmer police have been alerted of the developments ahead. After a long series of back and forths, both Governor Kalraj Mishra and CM Gehlot finally agreeing on a date when the Assembly will be convened – August 14. On July 13, Congress had shifted its MLAs to Jaipur’s Fairmont Hotel alleging a ploy by the BJP to topple the government by breaking away its lawmakers. Previously addressing the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) meeting held on Thursday, Gehlot had told the MLAs that they would have to stay at the Hotel Fairmont in Jaipur till August 14. Former Rajasthan Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot on July 13 had declared open rebellion, claiming that he had the support of the 30 Congress MLAs and some independents in the state assembly.

◐ Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Thursday indicated he will seek a confidence vote when the assembly convenes next fortnight and claimed that the money offered to the MLAs to switch sides had increased sharply ahead of the session. Gehlot claimed the money offered to MLAs to switch sides has increased sharply after the announcement of the assembly session date, up from Rs 10 crore as the “first installment” to whatever they asked.

Now, it is being asked how much do you want? This means that the rate has increased. Everyone knows who is doing the horse-trading.

◐ Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot also accused Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati of acting at the behest of the BJP, referring to her party’s petition in the high court challenging the merger of six BSP MLAs with the Congress last year.

◐ The Rajasthan High Court on Thursday issued notices to the Speaker and six MLAs who contested elections on a Bahujan Samaj Party and then merged with the Congress. The court issued the notices while hearing a petition filed by the BSP against the merger of the MLAs into Rajasthan’s ruling party.

◐ Sachin Pilot, who rebelled against the Ashok Gehlot government, congratulated Govind Singh Dotasra on Wednesday for taking charge as the Rajasthan Congress president, saying he expects the new chief will work without prejudice and treat with respect the workers with whose hard work the government has been formed.

Dotasra, who on Wednesday formally took over as the new chief of the Rajasthan Congress, was appointed to the post after Pilot was sacked as the Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee chief and the deputy chief minister following accusations that he tried to topple the Congress government in the state as part of a “BJP conspiracy”.
